Overcome Unbelief

Mark 9:23

“If you can?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” — Mark 9:23

In Mark 9, a desperate father brings his son to Jesus. The boy is suffering, and the father pleads for help. In his pain, he says something many of us have likely whispered in our own hearts:

“If you can…”

Jesus responds by shifting the focus.

“If you can? Everything is possible for one who believes.”

It wasn’t that Jesus lacked power. It was that the father’s faith was wavering under the weight of his circumstances.

How often do we pray like that?

“Lord, if You can…”
“God, if it’s possible…”
“Maybe You could…”

We pray — but sometimes we pray cautiously. We pray hoping, but not fully expecting.

Believe Without Limiting God

God is not limited by our situation.
He is not intimidated by impossible diagnoses, broken relationships, financial strain, or spiritual battles.

The same God who created the universe invites us to pray boldly.

Prayer is not meant to be filled with hesitation. It is meant to be filled with expectation.

Jesus was not rebuking the father harshly — He was inviting him higher.

Believe.

How God Spoke to Me in This Reading

God gently showed me that sometimes I approach Him with faith in my words, but doubt in my expectations. I pray, yet I quietly brace myself for disappointment.

Mark 9:23 reminds me that I serve a God for whom nothing is impossible.

He is not asking for perfect faith.

He is asking for surrendered belief.

Actions the Holy Spirit Is Leading Me to Take

  • Pray boldly without adding “if You can.”

  • Stop measuring God’s ability by my circumstances.

  • Expect Him to move — even when I don’t see immediate results.

  • Replace hesitation with trust.

  • Declare His promises over every situation.
