Pray and Believe

Acts 12:15
“You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”

We understand the necessity of prayer and recognize it as a powerful tool bestowed by God to enrich our Christian journey. Yet, our limited understanding often overlooks the infinite nature of God, who is capable of the unimaginable. Too frequently, we place constraints on our Creator.

In Acts 12, when the early church learned of Peter’s imprisonment and the looming threat to his life, they immediately united in prayer. They had previously witnessed the incredible impact of fervent prayer, with rooms shaking and the Holy Spirit filling every corner.

As they prayed, God dispatched an angel to rescue Peter and guide him out of prison. Shortly after, Peter arrived at the very house where they were praying and knocked on the door. What unfolded next is somewhat amusing. Despite praying for Peter, they dismissed the report of his arrival, thinking the young woman must be mistaken. They even conjectured it might be his angel.

But it wasn’t his angel.
It was the answer to their prayers—Peter himself.

When we pray, we must have faith. We should not be surprised when God answers. After all, why pray if we do not anticipate His response? Jesus encourages us to ask, seek, and knock.

So today, as you pray, believe and expect to receive.

How God Spoke to Me in Today’s Reading

God gently reminded me that although I often pray, I sometimes restrict Him with my limited expectations. I approach Him boldly, yet find myself surprised when He actually acts. This passage encourages me to pray with a faith that anticipates God’s intervention, rather than merely hoping He might.

The same God who responded in Acts 12 continues to answer our prayers today.

Actions the Holy Spirit Has Inspired Me to Take

  • Pray with expectation, free from doubt.

  • Refrain from underestimating what God can accomplish in seemingly impossible situations.

  • Trust that when I intercede on behalf of others, God is already at work.

  • Share testimonies promptly to nurture faith within the community.

When the knock comes at the door—answer it with faith.
